Fahrenheit 451

I choose Fahrenheit 451 because when I read the excerps it really caught my attention. It seemed like the main character, Montag, was crazy. He seemed to enjoy watching the fire burning down the house and he didn't even care. I wonder what is going to happen with the new neighbor that lives near him. When he met Clarisse they seemed to get along well and I think that they will become friends.

Eric: This is a start and I'd like to see you do more as we progress through the unit. It's interesting that you say Montag was crazy. Do you think he'd be considered crazy in his society? How about Clarisse? What do you think she will teach Montag?

Eric, I thought that you made a good choice on choosing this book. I have finished part 2 and I agree with you, Montag is definitely crazy to a certain point at the beginning. You will find that since Montag met Clarisse he realizes a lot about his own life and it shows how he’s not really crazy but is trying to understand everything happing around him. They definitely got along very well at the beginning and I think that if they never met this book would not be what it is now. Montag would have never looked at life the way she does, and how he should be. Keep reading and you will find that he is actually very unhappy with burning books but he doesn’t realize it till Clarisse comes along. Once you get to the part were Montag has to watch and elderly lady die in her own home because of books, you will see that Montag has really changed from the beginning.
